Stormy Beach Day

Falkland Islands, 2023. I was on a beach in the Falklands, waiting for penguins to return from fishing, when suddenly a large group of king penguins came down from their colony and started walking along the beach, periodically going in and out of the water just past their feet but never all the way. I never figured out why they had this behavior--at least two are molting and it's not safe for them to be in the water, but it was surprising they didn't stay at the colony. Perhaps they're juveniles on the cusp of adulthood, not quite ready to go fishing? Or perhaps they saw the approaching storm and realized it's not safe to swim when there's lightning.
