The arctic fox in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, Iceland are protected, and as a result, they are curious about humans and willing to come close if you lay still and don't do anything to scare them. As I lay still on the snow--it's so nice having cameras with articulating screens now--this female fox would cautiously check me out and then dart away. And then come back a little closer. And then dart away. At one point I shifted just slightly, and it was enough to make her pause and stop, wondering if I was a threat Small piece of frozen fish used as bait.
