Sunset Stroll

Svalbard, 2023. Winter's grip on Svalbard is both beautiful and challenging. The landscape, draped in a blanket of snow and ice, bathes in soft pastels during the perpetual low light. Yet, amidst this icy expanse, the elusive polar bears play hide-and-seek, expertly concealing themselves behind frozen curtains while temperatures below -20°C put your clothing to the test. Patience became my ally with this bear! I first encountered him engaged in an unsuccessful reindeer hunt atop a distant cliff. Opting for a nap, he tested my resolve. Hours later, as the mountains lit up, he woke up and came down to the water’s edge. I jumped into a zodiac and a mesmerizing encounter unfolded as the bear strolled towards me, framed by mountains glowing with the gentle hues of a winter sunset.
